First Weekend Recap

It’s a little late but I’m getting my first weekend recap post up!

Our weekends around here usually aren’t carefree and fun. Unfortunately, with the hubs and I both working full time our weekends are spent getting things done that we couldn’t get to during the week. So we are usually cleaning, running errands and doing grocery shopping. However, this weekend was actually pretty fun and relaxing even though we did get some cleaning done and of course had to do grocery shopping. It was far better than last weekend. We spent the holiday weekend with a sick little Roarinator. It is not fun for anyone when a fourteen month old has strep. Needless to say it was nice to have an easygoing, fun weekend.

Anyway, our weekend started with a beautiful Saturday so we wanted to get out of the house. We are trying to cut back on how much we spend on the weekends. We do great during the week but then our budget gets away from us on the weekends so we started with a search for free things to do in Cincinnati. After going over the list we determined we wanted to be outside so we headed to Smale Riverfront Park. It is a beautiful new park that runs along the Ohio River but there will be more on that in a later post.

The Roarinator fell asleep in the car on the way to the park so she slept through the first half of the park while Bubbadoodle played in one of the water features. This park really was designed with kids in mind. He was having so much fun that he didn’t want to leave to go get lunch but we finally convinced him the water would still be there when we got back.

We decided on Moerlein Lager House for lunch because they are kid friendly and they have great food. Oh and the hubs likes their beer selection.

I was really in the mood for a good burger so I just went with the Cheeseburger while the hubs went with the Caprese Flatbread. It has fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, tomato and balsamic glaze. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture before I started chowing down. Oops! They have a pretty typical kids menu with a hot dog, hamburger, mac and cheese, chicken fingers and pasta with red sauce.

After lunch we went back to the park for more fun in the water and this time the Roarinator got in on the action.

Sunday morning started with an early wake-up call from the Roarinator so her and I spent the morning relaxing on the couch. Once the boys were up the hubs took the kids to Holtman’s to get some de-lic-ious donuts. I of course had the coconut but we may have to go back this weekend so I can try some of their other crazy concoctions!

Most of Sunday was spent cleaning and doing the grocery shopping. We did enjoy a short visit from my parents, Naya and Papa.

Sunday was a day for all of the great foods…not healthy! We went to our favorite soft serve place, Zip Dip, after dinner. I would have gotten a picture but I typically share with the Roarinator so there was no time for picture before she dug in! We shared a vanilla and chocolate swirl cone with rainbow sprinkles.

A visit to Zip Dip would not be complete without a visit to the “Secret Goats”. The garden nursery across the street has several goats. We call them the “Secret Goats” because most people don’t know they are there. We didn’t even know they were there until a family friend let us in on the secret. Bubbadoodle loves going to see them. We have never been there when they are open so I have yet to figure out why they have the goats…yet another secret!

If you follow me on Instagram you probably figured out that Roarinator has been sick. She has had four ear infections and strep throat in the last two and a half months. As of Tuesday she has been on a new antibiotic and is finally getting back to her normal self! Praying she can beat these infections and finally get a break.
